Which Type of Certified Medical Assistant School is Right for You?
Medical assistant training which you can obtain from a variety of medical assisting schools should lead to getting a certificate. Although certification isn’t required, most employers prefer to hire a certified medical assistant if one is available. Certification shows that you have at least a certain level of knowledge of the necessary skills since you have passed an exam in order to obtain your certification. The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is one of the organizations that offers the exams necessary to become a Certified Medical Assistant. In order to be eligible to take the exam you must have completed an accredited training program, and you will need to pay a fee. Once you have completed your certification, you will need to either complete a certain number of continuing education credits each year or take a recertification exam in order to keep your certification current. The certification exam from the AAMA is done on computer and consists of 200 multiple choice questions. Aside from this, you can look into getting certified in a specialty or take an exam offered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT), among other things. Ophthalmology is an example of a specialty you could have leading to a specialty certification.
